Yellow Submarine animation director dies

Animation director Robert Balser, who worked on The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, has died.
The 88-year-old passed away at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Monday (04Jan16) after suffering complications from respiratory failure.
Along with fellow animation director Jack Stokes, Balser oversaw the work of the more than 200 artists hired to hand draw the colourful Beatles film, which was released in 1968.
He also collaborated with iconic graphic designer Saul Bass on the closing title sequence for 1956’s Around the World in 80 Days, and contributed to The Jackson 5’s 1970s cartoon series, 1979 TV film The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and episodes of The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show in the 1980s.
