19 theaters go digital for "Ocean's Eleven" screenings
HOLLYWOOD - After more than a year in which the expected conversion of movie theaters from film to digital media appeared to be stymied -- largely
because of the exhibitors' economic turmoil -- Warner Bros. announced
Tuesday that at least 19 theaters will use the Technicolor Digital
Cinema system to show Ocean's Eleven when it opens this weekend.
Some of the theaters are installing the digital systems without charge.
Although it is technically feasible to transmit the entire movie to
theaters via satellite or over the Internet, hard drives and/or DVDs
will be shipped to the theaters using conventional means.
