2009's Biggest Spec Deal? Warners Picks Up Fogelman Script for Carell

Steve Carell at the 'The Office' 100th episode celebration held at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, CA - 04/14/09
As the holiday rush on spec scripts continues, Warner Bros., in a deal worth nearly $2 million against $2.5 million, has purchased an untitled work from Cars scribe Dan Fogelman.

The project is a star vehicle for Steve Carell. According to Variety, final details of the deal were being ironed out late Thursday, but on the last day before the agencies and studios close for the holidays, WME and Industry Entertainment brokered arguably the biggest spec script sale of the year.

Carell will play a father whose life unravels while he deals with a marital crisis and tries to manage his relationship with his children, Variety explains.

Fogelman wrote the script specifically with Carell in mind. The film now becomes a candidate for one of two that Carell will do during his hiatus from The Office. Yesterday it was reported that Mail-Order Groom, which could see Carell reteam with his Date Night co-star Tina Fey, is also coming together.
