Many celebrities have gone on to write autobiographies or novels as a way to give insight into their life and show who they really are. Some stars even wish to impart words of wisdom onto their fans in an attempt to make the world a better place. And then there's 50 Cent. The well known rapper has written a book called Playground which tells the story about a teenager's path to becoming a bully. So is this like a How-To book for bullies? Apparently that's not the intention. The book will be a first person narrative from the view of a playground bully as he struggles to find redemption. 50 Cent states he "drew on events from my own childhood and adolescence, but was excited to see the story take on its own life." I feel like this could potentially backfire and make kids want to mimic what he did when he was in school? This has way too much of a do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do ring to it that I feel might not work among such impressionable youngsters today.
The rapper admits that "this book would have been very helpful for me growing up and now that I have a teenage son, it is my goal that this will have a positive influence on all teenagers." If this is his attempt to right a few wrongs from his past, I think he should focus a little closer to the present day since his bullying days weren't all that long ago. He's known for his public rumbles with fellow rappers Ja Rule and Fat Joe. Kinda sending the wrong message don't you think? Just a heads up - you might want to keep a lid on the adult bullying until your book comes out. The book will hit stores in January 2012.
