HOLLYWOOD - British animation studio Aardman has signed a new deal with Sony Pictures, just two months after ending its partnership with DreamWorks.
DreamWorks and Aardman went their separate ways at the end of January after recent collaborations Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Flushed Away failed to succeed in the U.S.
It was feared the collapse would spell the end for Aardman, but it yesterday announced a new deal with Sony--and that founder Nick Park is planning a new Wallace & Gromit adventure.
Aardman spokesman Arthur Sheriff says, "It is with great pleasure that I can now announce our new feature film deal. Aardman has signed to Sony Pictures.
"Nick Park is currently writing a new Wallace and Gromit adventure. When he's finished the script he will decide if it is a feature film or a TV Special."
Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment says of the deal, "We have been huge fans of Aardman films for a long time and this deal greatly expands Sony's commitment to animation."
