Longtime actor Ron Silver died Sunday morning after a two-year bout with cancer. He was 62.
Robin Bronk, executive director of the Creative Coalition (which was partly spearheaded by Silver), issued the following statement to the New York Post: "Ron Silver died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him this morning … He had been fighting esophageal cancer for two years and his family is making arrangements for a private service."
Silver was probably best known for his many film roles -- most notably as famed attorney Alan Dershowitz in 1990’s Reversal of Fortune -- but the actor was quite prolific on the stage and small screen as well.
He won a Tony Award in 1988 for his performance in David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow and was Emmy-nominated for his recurring guest role on TV’s The West Wing.
Silver, also an outspoken political commentator, landed his own talk show, The Ron Silver Show, on Sirius Satellite Radio just over a year ago.
His most recent film was 2007's The Ten, starring Paul Rudd.
