HOLLYWOOD - Scottish actress Deborah Kerr has died. She was 86.

The King and I star lost a long battle with Parkinson's disease on Thursday.

Kerr was nominated for six Academy Awards before she was eventually awarded an honorary Oscar in 1994 in recognition of the "perfection, discipline and elegance" of her screen work.

She was also appointed CBE in 1998.

Kerr long resided in Switzerland and Spain, but recently move back to her native Scotland after being diagnosed with the degenerative disorder.

She leaves behind two daughters, Melanie Jane and Francesca Ann.
