Advertisers Under Fire for Using Cartoon Favorites

The Incredibles
HOLLYWOOD - Health-conscious parents have pinpointed The Incredibles, The Simpsons, Scooby-Doo and Spider-Man in an assault on advertisers who use popular animated

characters to promote their fatty foods.

A survey by British consumer watchdog Which? discovered many parents are

furious with companies for abusing the innocent appeal of cartoon favorites to

entice kids into craving products high in fat, sugar and salt.

Around 77 percent believe the use of popular characters makes it almost

impossible to turn down their children's demands for unhealthy foods.

Which? spokesman Nick Stace says, "Parents feel manipulated by these

marketing practices. Licensing companies and food manufacturers have to take

responsibility to tackle the diet and food crisis."
