America Is Not Seeking Wesley Snipes Extradition

Wesley Snipes
HOLLYWOOD - Authorities in the U.S. have made no attempt to extradite Wesley Snipes from Namibia on tax fraud charges, according to the African nation's government.

The Blade actor was indicted last week on eight counts of tax fraud over allegations he tried to cheat the government out of $12 million in false refund claims.

But he has been shooting new horror movie Gallowwalker in Namibia since August and has no immediate plans to return to America, where a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Lidwina Shapwa, Namibia's Ministry of Justice permanent secretary, insists there has been no American contact seeking extradition, and that the two countries do not have an extradition treaty.

Writer/producer Joanne Reay said yesterday, "We are shooting and we are continuing to shoot. We are aware of the issue around the tax charges but we are not discussing it."
