American TV pioneer Buss dies

Buss passed away on 19 January (10) after suffering a stroke.

She appeared on screen as a scorekeeper for The CBS Television Quiz and in December 1941 co-ordinated broadcasting of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

In 1945, she was promoted to director and producer - and became the first woman to become a full-time director at any network.

Her credits include TV drama Sorry, Wrong Number, game show What’s It Worth?, cooking show To the Queen’s Taste, talk show Mike and Buff, children’s series The Whistling Wizard, and several sporting events.

In 1951, she co-directed Premiere, the first regular network colour television program in the U.S.

Buss retired from television in 1954.
