Variety reports that Academy Award nominated actress Angela Bassett has joined the cast of Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment's Green Lantern. The film, which is currently shooting in New Orleans under the direction of Martin Campbell, focuses on a test pilot who is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.
She will play Dr. Amanda Waller, a DC Universe staple who's arc may cross over into future productions, including the proposed Suicide Squad film. Bassett joins an all-star cast that includes Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins and Mark Strong.
Green Lantern will be released on June 17th 2011.
