We've all heard of people catching the acting bug, but it looks like many of Hollywood's A-list celebrities are catching the directing bug. Angelina Jolie can now be added to that ever-growing list as she just tried her hand at directing the feature film that she wrote, called In the Land of Blood and Honey. In an interview with Vanity Fair for their October issue, Jolie admits to her fears about her screenwriting and directing debut, confessing “I’ve never felt more exposed. My whole career, I’ve hidden behind other people’s words," adding that “Now it’s me talking. You feel ridiculous when you get something wrong."
So how did the actress develop a sudden urge to tackle directing and writing? "I had the flu. I had to be quarantined from the children for two days. I was in the attic of a house in France. I was isolated, pacing. I don’t watch TV and I wasn’t reading anything. So I started writing. I went from the beginning to the end. I didn’t know any other way." (whoa, who doesn't watch TV?) She even let Brad Pitt take a look at what she came up with, who looked it over and said "You know, honey, it’s not that bad." Of course, he could be a little bias being the live-in boyfriend and the father of her children, so perhaps he just doesn't want to get in trouble. He's no fool (except when it comes to that beard of his). She comments further on Brad's supportive role throughout the project, saying “He’d come in and say what he liked or what he didn’t understand. Like any woman, I would listen to most of it and fight a few things. He’s been so supportive." What she really means is, she would listen to what he said, get frustrated about his comments, he'd say he was sorry and that her work was wonderful, and then they'd make-up. I can totally see that happening.
Jolie also decided to put all rumors to rest about her and Brad getting married by stating that there's “no secret wedding” in the works. She also confirms, “I’m not pregnant. I’m not adopting at the moment." Well, with taking care of the six children they already have and the debut of her first directing project, I'd say she's already got enough on her plate without planning a wedding on top of it all. I'm curious to see if her work is as impressive as Brad was instructed to make it out to be. We'll find out soon enough how talented she is behind the screen. Who knew she could have more talent other than stealing people's husbands?
The October issue of Vanity Fair will be on newsstands September 1st.
