Anna Nicole Smith's Mother Finally Meets Baby Dannielynn

Anna Nicole Smith
HOLLYWOOD - Anna Nicole Smith's estranged mother has been granted a 50-minute visit with her granddaughter Dannielynn--the first time the retired police officer has met the baby.

The supervised meeting took place last night at the Bahamas home where the five-month-old girl is being looked after by Smith's companion Howard K. Stern.

The magical moments came 48 hours after Larry Birkhead, the photographer fighting for paternity of Dannielynn, held the baby for the first time.

But Stern's decision to let Virgie Arthur, the mother his late girlfriend publicly hated, see her granddaughter merely suggests the three main parties fighting over the baby and Smith's remains are coming together.

Hours before the meeting between grandmother and granddaughter took place, Stern issued a fierce attack on Arthur, who continues to hold up burial plans for her late daughter--because she insists on a funeral in Texas, not in Smith's adopted Nassau.

In new court papers, in which he attacks Arthur's appeal on a ruling to bury Smith in the Bahamas, he states her decision to hold up funeral plans shows a "blatant disregard and dishonor of Anna Nicole's ultimate, final, personal wish."

Stern and Arthur's attorneys will present their arguments before a Florida court this morning.

Smith's corpse remains in a Broward County, Florida, medical examiner's office three weeks after the late model's death--awaiting a final decision on her final resting place.
