Rock documentary Anvil! The True Story of Anvil has landed a major film award just weeks after a surprising Oscars snub.
The film, about a forgotten Canadian heavy metal band, was shut out of the Academy Awards Best Documentary race last month when Oscars bosses announced their 15-strong shortlist.
But the movie has been honored by the International Documentary Association in Los Angeles.
Filmmaker Sacha Gervasi's peers voted the film the Documentary of the Year, while Salt was named Best Short.
Oscar winner Errol Morris was presented with the 2009 Career Achievement Award.
