HOLLYWOOD - Actor Morgan Freeman has been confirmed to play former South African President Nelson Mandela in a new biopic, ending months of speculation.
The 70-year-old will star in and co-produce The Human Factor, based on the upcoming John Carlin book.
Last year, Freeman traveled to South Africa to discuss the possibility of the film with Mandela.
He tells industry newspaper Daily Variety, "I have known Nelson Mandela personally for quite some time, and am continually in awe of his enormous presence in the world.
"The opportunity to portray him in this film is a great honor."
