Actor Alec Baldwin has been threatened with violence by a politician in the Philippines after making a joke about a Filipino mail-order bride.

The 30 Rock star, who has a teenage daughter with ex-wife Kim Basinger, made the comment during an appearance on TV's The Late Show with David Letterman last week, when he was asked if he'd like to have more children.

He quipped, "(I'm) thinking about getting a Filipino mail-order bride at this point... or a Russian one."

But the throwaway remark has provoked outrage in the Philippines and incurred the wrath of leading politicians.

Senator Ramon Revilla is particularly incensed by Baldwin's joke, denouncing the actor's comments as "insensitive and uncalled for" and branding him "arrogant" because the country has a law against such a practice.

But Revilla, a former action movie star, hasn't stopped there -- he's vowed that Baldwin will learn the repercussions of his remark if he ever chooses to step foot in the Philippines, according to the Huffington Post.

He adds, "Let him try to come here in the Philippines and he'll see mayhem."
