Alec Baldwin to Pay for Soldier's College Education

Alec Baldwin
HOLLYWOOD - Movie star Alec Baldwin has offered to pay for a teenage soldier's education after being moved by her story.

The Pearl Harbor star is to help pay for Resha Kane's college education after she completes her military service in Iraq.

Baldwin made the decision after reading a New York Times story about the 18-year-old's final day with family and friends before signing up for pre-Iraq training.

The actor then tracked down Kane's mother at her workplace to personally offer his assistance.

Baldwin's spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, claims his client plans to meet the Kane family and hand over a check.

Hiltzik says, "It's a great example that people of different backgrounds can agree on the importance of supporting our troops."

Speaking from Fort Hood, Texas, where she is in training, the Arizona soldier says, "It's very generous."
