Bea Arthur Dies at age 86

Bea Arthur, star of TV’s The Golden Girls and Maude, died on Saturday. She was 86.

Arthur’s spokesman Dan Watt said only that the longtime actress had cancer and died peacefully at her Los Angeles home surrounded by family, according to the Associated Press.

Arthur won an Emmy apiece for her two sitcom staples during the 1970s and ‘80s, Maude and Golden Girls, respectively, the latter of which ran until 1992.

She also earned a Tony Award in 1966 for her performance in Mame.

Arthur’s last credited role was a guest appearance on Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2005, but more recently she had appeared as herself on various TV specials and awards shows.
