HOLLYWOOD - Billy Bob Thornton, 53, is returning to his dark roots and will star as Freddy Krueger in a new
Nightmare on Elm Street movie, reports WENN.
Robert Englund, who played the part in eight films, revealed that Thornton will star in the horror films and is an "excellent choice" for the role.
Thornton is known for embracing dark roles like Karl Childers, a mentally-challenged murderer, in the 1996 thriller Sling Blade; Ed Crane, a chain smoking barber who has a pension for black mail in Ethan and Joel Coen's loopy melodrama The Man Who Wasn't There; and the role of a life time playing opposite Angelina Jolie in their short-lived marriage in which he went to such great lengths to get into character that he wore her blood in a vial around his neck.
Englund adds, "A big budget should mean the film will look a lot better than some of the old movies."
With the original Freddy's seal of approval--the next version is sure to be a dream.
