HOLLYWOOD - Pirates of the Caribbean filmmaker Gore Verbinski is set to direct the silver-screen adaptation of the hit video game BioShock, according to reports.

Universal Studios has signed a deal with the game's publisher, Take-Two Interactive--believed to be the biggest video game-to-movie contract since Fox and Universal's 2005 negotiations with Microsoft for the now-aborted Halo movie, reports Variety.

BioShock, set in a nearly deserted underwater city, has sold more than 2 million units worldwide.
