Blanchett is a mommy

Bandits
HOLLYWOOD - Oscar-nominated actress Cate Blanchett, one of the hardest working girls in Hollywood, may be getting a much needed break from making movies.

The 32-year-old Australian actress and her husband, writer Andrew Upton, welcomed their first child, a boy they named Dashiell John, earlier this week in London, Blanchett's publicist, Lisa Kasteler said. The baby and mother are doing fine, although no other details have been released.

Blanchett has had a very busy year, appearing in The Man Who Cried, Bandits and the upcoming The Shipping News, Lord of the Rings and Charlotte Gray. She just won the National Board of Review award for best supporting actress, boosting her chances for another Oscar nomination in February. Blanchett was nominated once before in 1998 for her performance as the Virgin Queen in Elizabeth.

With such a jammed schedule, how did Blanchett manage to squeeze in having a baby?

"It's a happy byproduct of a happy marriage. We had a lot of very romantic reunions," Blanchett said after she announced her pregnancy. "I guess it was those romantic liaisons in hotel rooms that got me where I am today."
