HOLLYWOOD - Actress Bo Derek is devastated over a freak motorcycle accident that claimed the life of her younger brother while he was on his way to visit her at her home near Santa Barbara, California.
Collin Johnson Collins, 47, of Long Beach, California, lost control of his motorcycle on a Los Angeles freeway on Nov. 22, shortly after 6 p.m.
As he lay helpless on the highway, Collins was struck and pinned underneath an oncoming car.
According to Los Angeles County Coroner spokesman Capt. Ed Winter, Collins suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Collins was en route to a Thanksgiving celebration with Derek and her boyfriend, former Sex and the City star John Corbett.
Derek, 50, remains in seclusion, but a longtime family friend tells The National Enquirer, "Bo is devastated. Collin was more than a brother to her. He was her best friend and her anchor. Her heart is shattered."
