It's Halloween weekend, and it looks like Kevin Smith may have been tricked into thinking a movie about porn could scare up a top spot at the box office. Meanwhile, the kids over High School Musical 3 might just be treated to a second winning week.
Sorry.
Box-office predictor Chris Beaumont at Blog Critics Magazine estimates a solid $23 million for the Disney hit followed by $16 million for Zack and Miri Make a Porno. This would mark a sound start for Smith’s latest project (Clerks II opened at $10 million two years ago) about two broke friends who turn to amateur porn for fast cash.
Fans looking for a little Halloween horror will flock to Saw V, which opened at $30.5 million last weekend, and the new fear flick The Haunting of Molly Hartley (about a girl whose parents sold her soul to the devil and co-starring Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford). Beaumont suggests a $15-million weekend is in store for Saw V and only $8 million for Molly Hartley – which would put the scream-fest a notch below Clint Eastwood’s Changeling, which could earn up to $9.5 million according to Beaumont.
Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Max Payne and Secret Life of Bees are among the films likely to bring in a few million apiece over the next few days.
