Britney's now a video game!

Britney Spears
HOLLYWOOD - Now you can play with Britney Spears, too.

Yes, the pop princess herself, currently wowing them at the box office in her film Crossroads, will be appearing in "Britney's Dance Beat," a video game for PlayStation 2.

The game features the singer/actress in a virtual 3-D "Britney" world, where players become backup dancers, starring and editing themselves in a Britney music video.

Liz Pieri, a spokeswoman for game manufacturer THQ, Inc., a Calabasas Hills, Calif.-based company, told the New York Daily News, "It looks like Britney, it moves like Britney, it's the next best thing to Britney. It's simply wild." Pieri believes the game will be as huge a hit as "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider."

Spears, who is very protective of her image, was reported to be very pleased with the likeness of herself in the game. According to THQ, Inc., she was scanned for several hours so the 3-D rendition would be as close to the real thing as possible.

The video game is a "natural extension" of Spears, her co-manager Larry Rudolph said in a statement.

"The explosive growth in the interactive category driven by new gaming technologies means fans can look forward to an ultra-realistic adventure through Britney's world."

The game will be released in stores in May.
