The Munsters are returning from the dead, and they've landed a pretty big name to help lead them back. Deadline.com reports that Bryan Singer, director of Superman Returns and producer of the hit Fox series House, M.D., is close to a deal to direct and exec-produce the pilot for a new version of the quirky '60s sitcom about a family of monsters living in a suburban neighborhood. NBC, which has spent lavishly on new TV projects and seen little return from its investment, recently commissioned the pilot based on a script from Bryan Fuller. According to Deadline, the Singer-helmed reboot will take the form of a "visually spectacular one-hour drama" featuring "all the classic Munsters archetypes," which sounds like another high-priced roll of the dice for the Peacock Network.
Truth be told, I'm rather indifferent about the prospect of a Munsters reboot. My only demand is that Singer replace the kitschy theme song from the original show with an awesome contemporized hip-hop version.
