Accustomed to playing second-fiddle to the likes of CBS and Fox, the CW Network made a big splash today by greenlighting three high-profile pilots. According to Variety, CW has given the formal go-ahead to Arrow, The Carrie Diaries, and Beast. All three boast formidable pedigrees: Arrow is based on the popular D.C. Comics superhero Green Arrow, a Robin Hood-esque character with a subversive streak; The Carrie Diaries is inspired by Sex and the City creator Candace Bushnell's novel about the high-school years of one Carrie Bradshaw; and Beast will reportedly reinvent the classic Beauty and the Beast fairy tale as a "modern-day romancer 'with a procedural twist.'"
