Calista Flockhart
's biological clock is ticking, and you better believe that she's doing something about it.
The "Ally McBeal" actress confirmed through her publicist that she has indeed -- as the tabloid The National Enquirer has been rumoring -- adopted a baby boy.
"I have always wanted to adopt a child, and I am overjoyed that I have been blessed with a beautiful and healthy son," said
Flockhart
, 36, in a brief statement.
Despite the new addition to Flockhart's life, the actress plans to continue working on the hit Fox comedy and intends on giving birth someday and might adopt another child in the future.
"I'm completely enchanted and awestruck. I feel extremely fortunate and grateful that I work for such a supportive company that offers a wonderful child care facility, enabling me to spend a lot of time with my son while I'm working."
According to the Enquirer,
Flockhart
was in the delivery room in a San Diego hospital for the birth of her adopted son on New Year's Day. Photographs published in the Enquirer on Thursday show
Flockhart
carrying the infant.
