People magazine confirmed this week that Chaz Bono and his fiancée, Jennifer Elia, have called off their engagement and ended their relationship. According to their publicist, Howard Bragman, "They leave this relationship with great love, respect and affection towards one another," adding, "No further amplification will be forthcoming and they ask that you respect their privacy at this time." The couple became engaged earlier this year when Chaz popped the question to Elia in Seattle last month during an episode of his new OWN reality series, Being Chaz.
Elia began dating Chaz in 1999 and stuck by him through his gender reassignment surgery, where he transitioned from a woman to a man. But for one reason or another, things didn't work out (it's unclear as to what really caused the split), and the former Dancing With the Stars contender wants everyone to know that he's doing just fine post-breakup. Chaz recently posted on a message to his followers on Twitter, writing, "Thanks for your concern about our separation. I'm doing fine, and we remain on good terms with nothing but respect and affection 4 each other." So at least he seems in good spirits.
