Chinese Censors Remove Scene from 'M:I 3'

Mission: Impossible III Movie Stills
HOLLYWOOD - Mission: Impossible 3 finally opened in China yesterday after censors removed a scene which they believed portrayed the Chinese military in a negative light.

In the action-packed segment, Tom Cruise's character, Ethan Hunt, distracts a unit of Chinese soldiers by throwing a baseball before killing them all.

A spokesperson for the state-run distributor China Film Group says, "It was truly insulting."

Another scene erased from the Chinese release featured elderly friends playing the popular Chinese game mahjong next door to where Hunt's wife is held hostage.

The spokesperson felt the scene gave the impression "common Chinese people were... insensitive to a hostage situation."

A total of six minutes of J.J. Abrams movie were left on the Chinese editing room floor.
