Chris Rock: Host of the 77th Academy Awards |
HOLLYWOOD - The Oscars are getting funnier and funnier--literally.The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has appointed Chris Rock as host to the 77th Academy Awards telecast. This will be Rock's first stint as Oscar host.
"I am a huge fan of Chris Rock," producer Gil Cates said in the press release. "He always makes me laugh and he always has something interesting to say. Chris represents the best of the new generation of comics. Having him host the Oscars is terrific. I can't wait."
Rock--best known for his films such as Head of State and Dogma as well as his popular comedy specials including Bigger & Blacker, Bring the Pain and Never Scared--hosted the 20th MTV Video Music Awards in 2003. He has won three Emmy Awards and two Grammy Awards for his work.
Rock recently finished the North American tour of his comedy show Black Ambition and currently is shooting The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler as well as provided the voice of the zebra in the upcoming animated feature Madagascar, both to be released in May 2005.
The 77th Annual Academy Awards will be broadcast live from the Kodak Theatre Feb. 27, 2005.
