HOLLYWOOD - Rush Hour star Chris Tucker claims he was in a hurry to make it tochurch on time when police caught him speeding on April 17.
Law enforcers pulled over the comedian's speeding 2005 Bentley--which they
state was doing 109 miles per hour on Georgia's Interstate 20--when he did not
immediately stop for them.
And authorities tell TV show Celebrity Justice that a chase
continued at speeds that exceeded 120 miles an hour until two trailers got in
the way. They state that Tucker ultimately pulled over after a 12-mile
pursuit.
The troopers arrested Tucker and charged him with speeding and fleeing and
attempting to elude. Then they took him to a county jail, where he stayed for
about 30 minutes before posting bond.
Georgia troopers say Tucker apologized for the incident, and he stated that
he was on his way to church in South Carolina. They also say that Tucker
claimed he didn't see the lights or hear the sirens.
Tucker says in a statement, "All I wanted to do is get to the 11am church
services on time."
The funnyman now faces a fine of up to $1,000 or a year in jail for
each of the two offenses.
