Christina Applegate Diagnosed with Cancer

HOLLYWOOD - Actress Christina Applegate is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, a spokesperson for the star has announced.

The 36-year-old Anchorman star is expected to make a full recovery after being diagnosed with cancer during a regular MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan, representative Ame Van Iden confirmed in a statement released to the media on Saturday.

The full statement reads: "Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor-ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening.

"Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery. No further statement will be issued at this time."

It was announced last month the star would participate in the TV telethon Stand Up to Cancer on Sept. 5, joining Meryl Streep, Sally FieldJennifer Aniston and Scarlett Johansson in raising money for cancer research.

Applegate is also set to compete in next month's Emmy Awards, after receiving a nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role on hit TV show Samantha Who?.
