has been named the greatest Amrerican movie of all time.
The 1941
Orson Welles
classic topped the American Film Institute (AFI) poll.
Crime epic
The Godfather
was in second place followed by romantic World War II film
Casablanca
.
Alfred Hitchcock
's 1958 thriller
Vertigo
made the top ten after coming 61st a decade ago.
Newer films such as 2001's
Lord of the Rings
movie,
Titanic
and
Saving Private Ryan
also made the top 100.
