'Cloverfield' Sequel on Its Way?

HOLLYWOOD - Producers of horror film Cloverfield are in talks to make a sequel--because the monster movie has become such an unexpected hit.

The Matt Reeves-directed film, which was shot in the style of a home movie, is about five New Yorkers attempting to escape from a giant monster.

The movie debuted atop the box office chart earlier this month with earnings of $41 million--to take the title of the biggest-ever January opening.

And film studio Paramount is keen to cash in on its success with a follow-up, according to industry publication Variety.

But Reeves has warned fans of Cloverfield not to get their hopes up just yet.

He says, "Only time will tell. While we were on set making the film we talked about the possibilities and directions of how a sequel can go."
