Columbus Day may be Denzel's, too

HOLLYWOOD - Analysts are expecting a strong Columbus Day weekend at the box office and

are forecasting that the likely winner will be Warner Bros.' Training Day, in which Denzel Washington plays a corrupt cop. The film is opening

to mostly good reviews (see below) amid a glossy marketing campaign. Miramax

is also expecting good business for its romantic comedy Serendipity,

which is receiving mixed notices. Several analysts suggest that the film

should attract the dating crowd and young women. The R-rated Joy

Ride, a slick thriller, is also expected to perform solidly in its

debut. Disney is offering the kids flick Max Keeble's Big Move, which

was ignored by many critics. The film, however, faces little competition in

the family film market.
