Tom Cruise Persuades Katie Holmes to Reject Addict Role
HOLLYWOOD - Actress Katie Holmes has turned down the role of pop artist Andy Warhol's museEdie Sedgwick in forthcoming movie Factory Girl--because the character's drugabuse reportedly goes against her boyfriend Tom Cruise's Scientology beliefs. Director George Hickenlooper had lunch with Holmes in Los Angeles last monthto discuss the possibility of her replacing Jude Law's fiancee Sienna Miller as Sedgwick, who died of an overdose of barbiturates in 1971. But movie insiders claim the 26-year-old beauty decided against starring inthe movie because Cruise--who has helped people fight drug addictions throughhis controversial religion--warned the part would be bad for her image. Holmes' publicist confirms, "Katie is not attached to that project." A source tells New York Post newspaper, "Edie was in and out ofmental institutions and on all sorts of psychotropic drugs.
