HOLLYWOOD - Residents in Dallas are thrilled at least part of the big-screen remake of the TV show Dallas will be shot in its namesake city.
Local residents were furious when producers announced the film was being shot in Louisiana and Florida instead of Texas, because the other states offered tax incentives to the filmmakers.
But Dallas Film Commission director Janis Burklund said on Monday she had received word from the film studio behind the production that at least one-third of the movie would be shot in the city.
The film is a remake of the classic TV series and is set to star John Travolta as J.R. Ewing and Jennifer Lopez as his long-suffering wife Sue Ellen.
Burklund says, "I would have hoped for the whole thing. However, I would have to say yes, it is still a win. We're getting more than we initially thought.
"Initially they told me four or five days...so, yeah, I'm happy."
In March the city and the film commission launched the "Shoot J.R. in Dallas" campaign to try and entice the film's producers to make the movie in Dallas.
Texas lawmakers passed a tax incentives bill during a recent legislative session in order to lure the $70 million production to the city.
