HOLLYWOOD - They've always been together and now they're going to be awarded together.
Husband and wife team Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee have been named to receive the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award. The couple, who have been married for 52 years, will be honored March 11 at the union's annual awards show, The Associated Press reports.
Davis and Dee first met at a Broadway production in 1946 and were married after a two-year courtship. They later starred together in films such as "No Way Out," Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing," "Jungle Fever" and on Broadway's "A Raisin in the Sun."
"For more than half a century, together and individually, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee have enriched and transformed American life as brilliant actors, writers, directors, producers and passionate advocates for social justice, human dignity and creative excellence," said William Daniels, SAG's president.
