The Ally McBeal and Arrested Development star will lead the cast of comedy The Smart One, which has just been picked up by bosses at ABC in America, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The plot centres on an intelligent professional who agrees to work for her dumb but popular sister who is a city mayor.
DeGeneres will executive produce the project.
