Any Hollywood star could tell you that fame can be a pretty powerful, yet tricky thing. If used properly, one is capable of becoming a great role model for today's youth, helping them to achieve a bright, successful future. But - despite what some may believe - celebrities are in fact human and make mistakes, occasionally saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, especially during interviews (see: Kristen Stewart, Johnny Depp, and pretty much anything Gwyneth Paltrow says). But the latest celebrity slip-up falls to Demi Lovato, who rather unwisely talked about how she used to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol in an interview with Seventeen, a teen-angling magazine.
During the interview, Lovato opened up about her past, saying, "I'm not going to lie. I was self-medicating. I was doing things like drinking and using [drugs], like a lot of teens do to numb their pain." Now granted, this girl's come a long way from where she was and has overcome a lot of obstacles. All of that deserves recognition, but it just seems a little inappropriate to be talking about such things considering the magazine's target audience.
Call me overprotective, but doesn't the topic matter seem a little reckless? For all we know, a teen could read that and decide to mimic her behavior, thinking that if a celebrity did it then they can do it. Youngsters are so easily influenced, and therefore it's always best to err on the side of caution when speaking to such a persuadable demographic, especially when you're a celebrity figure. Hey, no one said fame was going to be easy!
