HOLLYWOOD - Green-minded celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio were shuttled to the Academy Awards in plug-in hybrid cars last night.
Global Green USA began ferrying stars in environmentally friendly automobiles to the Kodak Theater ceremony in Los Angeles five years ago.
This year, the firm lined up 30 two-seat, scarlet-colored prototypes of the Tesla Roadster to drive celebrities to the Oscars.
One taker was Davis Guggenheim, director of the Academy Award-winning global warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
Global Green USA boss Matt Petersen says, "The past years we only worked with the hybrid cars and this year we really wanted to promote alternative fuels and different technologies that represent what's next."
DiCaprio and An Inconvenient Truth star Al Gore, the former vice president, paid tribute to Oscars bosses during the ceremony--for making this year's event an environment-friendly one.
