Digital apes? No way, says director Burton

Planet of the Apes
Director Tim Burton
HOLLYWOOD - Planet of the Apes director Tim Burton says that he rejected early suggestions that he digitally render the apes in his movie because he feared losing the ape-human connection. In an interview appearing in Wednesday's Toronto Star, Burton said, "Look, when I saw that first movie when I was 10," he says, "I didn't know anything about movies but I knew there was something primal and fascinating about real actors playing apes. In a way, that's what the essential power of this material is all about. The connection between people and apes. That primal connection."
