'Dirty Dancing' Remake Has a Writer

Foes of the recently greenlighted Dirty Dancing remake — a surprisingly large and vociferous group — will be disheartened to know that the project is moving forward at full speed. Deadline reports that Maria Meggenti, writer of this summer's little-seen Selena Gomez comedy Monte Carlo, has been hired to pen a screenplay for the film, which already has director/choreographer Kenny Ortega attached to helm. Could casting news be far behind? Lionsgate is said to be fast-tracking the project, leaving precious little time for concocting a proper harebrained scheme to prevent its filming. God knows a measly petition ain't gonna do it.
