Eddie Albert Dies at 99

HOLLYWOOD - Academy Award-nominated actor Eddie Albert has died of pneumonia at his home in

Pacific Palisades, California. He was 99.

The beloved TV and film star, who became an American institute in the 1960s

when he starred in sitcom Green Acres, was nominated for an Oscar for his roles

in Roman Holiday and The Heartbreak Kid.

As well as becoming famous for his acting, Albert was also a renowned

environmental activist and an inventor.

He was also honored with America's Bronze Star for his heroic rescue of U.S.

Marines in the South Pacific during his service in WWII.

Albert also enjoyed a spell with a Mexican circus, where he appeared as a

clown and trapeze artist.

In recent years, he suffered from Alzheimer's Disease.
