Eddie Murphy Set for Another 'Beverly Hills Cop'

HOLLYWOOD - Eddie Murphy is going back to Beverly Hills. The actor is attached to star as Detroit detective Axel Foley in a fourth installment of Beverly Hills Cop. Variety reports that Brett Ratner in negotiations to direct.

Paramount, the studio behind the film, is aiming for a 2009 production start and a summer 2010 release.

Murphy reportedly approached the studio about reviving the franchise and Paramount was eager to work with Murphy again after he finished its NowhereLand, which will come out in June next year.

The Beverly Hills Cop franchise began in 1984 and solidified Murphy’s superstar status. Two further films came out in 1987 and 1994.

Meanwhile, Ratner has been developing the Hugh Hefner biopic Playboy and, according to Entertainment Weekly’s Hollywood Insider blog, is angling to hire Robert Downey Jr. to star.
