Elton John Planning 'Rocketman' Biopic

Elton John and partner David Furnish are planning a biopic based on the singer's sweeping music career, Deadline has learned. Dubbed Rocketman, the flick will tell John's story of a "young man who rebelled against his strict upbringing, wore outrageous costumes and became a global icon who teamed with songwriter Bernie Taupin to sell more records that just about any musical artist of his era." Billy Elliot scribe Lee Hall has been hired to write the script. The film will be produced under John and Furnish's banner, Rocket Pictures.

Rocket Pictures executive Steve Hamilton Shaw promised Rocketman will be "a radically different kind of biopic” and "as unique as Elton’s life, told in a non-linear and hyper-visual manner that will transport people through the many intense experiences, some wonderful, some not, that helped define Elton as an artist, musician and man.” Translation: There will be blow. Lots and lots of blow.
