Fate of 'Lone Ranger' to Be Decided This Weekend

While most of you will be enjoying your Labor Day weekend, going to the beach, attending barbecues, playing golf, or doing whatever else people who leave the house (ie, not bloggers) do, Jerry Bruckheimer, Gore Verbinski, and a handful of Disney execs will be meeting to determine the fate of The Lone Ranger, Variety reports. As you may recall, production on the Johnny Depp film was halted last month when said execs understandably grew skittish over the project's reported budget of $250 million. Disney hopes to whittle it down to something more in the range of $200-$215 million, which still sounds scandalously expensive for a freaking western. Unless the plot involves aliens. In which case, the film should be canceled immediately.

According to Variety, we can expect a final decision on The Lone Ranger to be announced sometime next week.
