Cops investigating Michael Jackson's death have called in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in a desperate bid to track down the tragic star's former doctors.
Los Angeles police are currently trying to get to the bottom of the star's demise, amid swirling reports that Jackson's fatal cardiac arrest last week was due to a prolonged addiction to prescription drugs.
According to TMZ.com, the singer's need for pills was so intense that he used a string of aliases in order to con physicians into signing medication over to him.
The Web site adds that Jackson used the names of his bodyguards and other acquaintances to get a litany of prescriptions.
And due to the huge media and public interest in the underlying cause of the "Thriller" star's death, police officials investigating his passing have brought in the DEA to help with the case.
The federal agency will reportedly interview Jackson's doctors to try to discover how he was able to get hold of drugs including Demerol -- an anesthetic similar to morphine.
A spokesperson for the DEA says, "We routinely offer assistance to any agency regarding the Federal Controlled Substance Act. However, at this time we have nothing further to comment about the death of Michael Jackson."
