It seems that adding James Spader to its cast was one of the best things The Office could possibly have done post-Michael Scott. Spader's Robert California is so wildly different from anything we've ever seen on the show that he's the perfect way to usher the series into an era where the other characters start to take the spotlight -- a place where The Office can be the ensemble show it's been struggling to be this whole time. That is, if Robert California doesn't make audiences fall so madly in love with him that that's not possible. Which is completely possible.
The Office returns Thursday, Sept. 22.
