'Forbidden Planet' Star, Anne Francis, Loses Cancer Battle

Forbidden Planet Anne FrancisIt’s a tough day for Hollywood. Shortly after the news that we’d lost actor Pete Postlethwaite, we find that the star of the the ground-breaking 1950’s film, Forbidden Planet, Anne Francis has also passed away. After a long battle with lung cancer and pancreatic cancer, Francis lost her battle on Sunday in Santa Barbara, Calif. She was 80 years old.

She starred alongside the late Leslie Neilsen in Forbidden Planet and went on to have a successful career in television. In 1965, Francis starred as a lady version of superspy James Bond in Honey West; the role earned her a Golden Globe win and an Emmy nomination. Farris’ sexy spy also pioneered the concept that a television series could be named after a female detective. She continued to work in television up until 2004, appearing on everything from The Twilight Zone to Murder, She Wrote to Without a Trace, and graced the silver screen in more than 30 films during her lifetime. She is survived by her daughters, Jane and Maggie.
